A few months back, I was at my parent’s place doing some tinkering with a broken USB cable. I was combining two broken cables to make one functional cable so that I could use a scanner to digitize our photo albums. I was doing this near my laptop, a 2017 MacBook. The repair went okay and the cable was functional and I got the job done.

The end of the day grew near and it was time for me to go home so I started packing. I needed to put the laptop in my backpack, so I closed the lid…

Our bunny passed away yesterday. She was suffering from an infection and was on antibiotics for weeks, and she seemed fine only a few days before. Since she wasn’t eating like usually does, we took her to the vet. I wasn’t there when it happened but when the doctor was examining her, for reasons we aren’t certain of, she screamed went quiet. Forever. I saw her on the table, motionless. The doctor and his assistant had tried what they could, massaging her heart and trying to get her to breathe, but to no avail.

It took me a few minutes…

If you’ve read my previous posts, you’d probably know that I have an unusual interest in mobile wallets and cashless payments. I suppose this stems from my anxiety and the reluctance to interact with people. Or at least, keep the interactions at a minimum.

The anxiety also prevents me from actually asking people if they support various services. It’s complicated. This is the reason why I never tried to use any services like Frimi in the wild. Well, that’s not entirely true. I tried and they didn’t go well.

When I heard that Frimi was starting to support all Keells…

It’s been a few months after I initially tried out a bunch of apps that promise to change the way we deal with payments. I’ve tried to use them how I can, and my experiences have been rather poor.

I wanted to write about this again because VISA has been pushing ads about PayWave on Facebook right now and Frimi has started supporting Keells outlets (which should work out well for them, since you can find Keells pretty much everywhere). Apart from that, a few new players have also entered the market. …

Ever since Apple introduced Apple Pay, I wanted to use cashless payments here in Sri Lanka. But with us being a tiny country that nobody really cares about, expecting Apple Pay or Samsung Pay to be available here was not going happen. Just look at all the trouble we’ve gone through to get PayPal here. It still hasn’t worked out despite all the petitions and promises (and it probably never will).

Cashless payments weren’t on my mind for a while until a friend mentioned something about Sampath Bank doing a NFC enabled card recently. This intrigued me and I went…

Metallica is my favorite band. There is no question about it. I’ve always loved what they do and I love their attitude towards music. They never really stuck to one formula, tried many new things despite much criticism in certain cases and I respect them for that (St. Anger or Lulu for example).

They’ve always been there for me with a plethora of other bands and artists through pretty much everything.

If I remember correctly, the first Metallica song I heard was “Nothing Else Matters”. It was a confusing experience. I was thinking to myself, why is this song so…

Using Sinhala on the phone used to be very important to me. After switching to Windows Phone (7.x — those things were unhackable) I decided to let it go. But since I moved back to Android felt like it was time to get it done! (The delay was obviously because I couldn’t be bothered with rooting. But as with everything, I eventually got bored and had to seek out methods of entertainment. In this case with custom ROMs and other fun things.)

You may have seen good Sinhala support on Samsung devices. …
